Re: Looking for Top Actions People can do to Improve Water Quality if they are Elderly

Excellent.
I spend a great deal of time working with a similar clientèle, our best uptake in small scale changes that affect water quality has been in awareness of the impacts of fertilizers (domestic) and to a lesser extent pesticides. We have recognized locally available 'amphibian friendly' herbicides that do not cost any more money but are not harmful to our froggy friends.
We are hoping to begin a community composting program in partnership with 'transition towns' to further reduce the need for fertilizer, and to facilitate an easily supported and sustainable way for people to get involved in doing something positive.
We have a terrific group of volunteers in our town's social snorkeling club, who have become involved in a coral watch program and coral bleaching scoring, this 'end of catchment' assessment is a great tool when discussing catchment influences.
As for a list, well, I don't have one as such. But I do have priorities, and fertiliser is the top one. We have held a dew events aimed at riparian repair and/or augmentation, but these aren't really a 'simple job' that people can do in their homes
all the best
