Re: Heritage Trees

Hi Edith, you might want to talk with staff at Fort Ann, Annapolis Royal, NS. They maintain ancient gardens and I believe this includes trees.

Re: Banning Cosmetic Pesticides

Thanks very much for your reply Sarah. I am very interested in what your Lawn For Lobsters program looks like and the supporting documents. Can you email me ( [email protected] )your phone number so we can chat about it? There are many similarities between Maine and Nova Scotia, including a large lobster fishing industry so your program may be hugely helpful.
I look forward to talking to you.

Has anyone done a social marketing approach in relation to banning cosmetic pesticides? Quebec, Ontario, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island have all taking action so far. Nova Scotia is looking at it.
Thanks

More and More provinces are banning the non-essential sale and use of pesticide - more specifically lawn care and landscaping uses.

Re: Innovative Litter Signs
2009-06-15 07:41:06 UTC
Hi Katya, Nova Scotia Environment just went through an anti-littering campagn called "The Best Thing You'll Never Do". The signs were basically went for a sarcastic attention grabber. The signs essentially say "Please Litter" and then goes on to say that we all know littering is not acceptable so please don't. Check out the web site. There is also research and a pledge not to litter section. The program launched spring 2009 so it will be interesting to see what a post survey will show.
This is not my program but I can conect you with the person behind the program if you want more info..

Re: Well Water and Groundwater
2009-06-15 07:18:08 UTC
Hi Cathy, I Coordinate the Environmental Home assessment Program in Nova Scotia. The program targets rural homeowners to educate them on proper operation and maintenence of their septic system, private water supply and home heating oil tank system.
The purpose is to change behaviou so the homeowners test their well water (which has been lacking) amonst other past behavioural trends that are detrimental to the environment and public health.
You can check out the direct program link at: http://www.gov.ns.ca/nse/airlandwater/homeassessment.asp
Feel free to give me a call if you'd like to discuss.
