Re: Employer Recognition Program for Cyclists and Walkers
2011-06-09 21:58:10 UTC
I used to work at University of Edinburgh. They had a program of interest free loans of up to 500 UK pounds for bikes and equipment, which they then took out of your pay. I think it was a notional scheme though.
This is what they have now:

Re: Landlords - Examples of Successful Efforts

Hi Nancy
I'm unaware of such specific programs, but the Alternative Technology Association of Australia recently did this:
Renters Guide to Sustainable Living:
http://www.ata.org.au/sustainability/renters-guide-to-sustainability/
They also recently did an article on related research - "What stops green rentals?":
http://renew.org.au/current-issue/what-stops-green-rentals
Hopefully that helps.

Re: Don't Miss the Article on Social Norms

Hy Susan and others. Thanks for this.
In talking to colleagues and others in the Transition Town movement, I've been trying to stress the importance of social norms to normalising behaviour.
I remember seeing a video once of people getting in a lift and facing the 'wrong' way. Would anyone have a link to this?

Re: GHG Emissions Auditing - Getting up to Speed
2010-11-14 19:12:28 UTC
Hi MElissa
It's next to impossible to get robust community level data withought good working agreements between Council, retail and Distribution companies, households and business that provide surveys and data collection.
ICLEI have a Council/Municipality version of other accounting protocols:
http://www.iclei.org/index.php?id=ghgprotocol
And the UNEP's Draft International Standard for Determining Greenhouse Gas Emissions for Cities is available at http://www.unep.org/urban_environment/PDFs/InternationalStd-GHG.pdf
Another Australian resource that may help is:

Re: Keeping Track of Community Sustainablilty

Hi there
There is another in Australia (http://www.greenstreet.net.au/) that has two streams - homes and businesses. The website tracks your usage and compares to your street or suburb usage.
You can also form groups (or communities of practice) to allow networks. They also run 'Greenstreet Cafes' and community sustainability workshops. They're doing some good work in both urban and rural communities in Queensland.
