Waterway Protection Post Bank Degradation, Erosion
2011-08-29 17:13:38 UTC
Hi everyone
I'm looking for temporary as well as longer term control measures where stock have degraded pasture and / or waterway banks to the point that there is no more vegetative cover. We want to be able to provide advice to landowners on how they can prevent longer term erosion / sediment loss until pasture cover or plantings can be restored or regenerate in the spring. Often the property is very waterlogged so bringing in machinery may not be an option. We do have regulations in place - this is to mitigate where they haven't been complied with.
Thanks in advance.

Re: Single Stream Signage for Receptacles

We are starting single stream collection including the white polystyrene but not the black kind you would find holding meat. I assume bubble wrap would be included also as they have been advertising they will be taking soft plastics. If poster wants to email me [email protected] can put them in touch with the coordinator for that scheme.

Hi Luke, if you google "wrong way elevator" you will probably find the clip on Youtube. I think the original was done on a comedy type TV show about 35 years ago.

Hi Sarah
IIRC Don Chittock of ECan knew a post-grad student who was researching disaster waste from the September earthquake. If you go down the rabbit hole they may have done some perceptions / behaviour analysis as part of the research.
Cheers

Re: Promoting Community Watershed Awareness

Alrighty - there is a report on the campaign here: http://www.cleanwaterways.org.nz/community-education-and-engagement.html
On a side note and hopefully the moderators are OK with this - some of the people who have been working on this programme are currently experiencing inexpressible hardships as they try to rebuild their lives after the 22 February earthquake. Raw sewage is unfortunately having to be pumped into waterways as part of the disaster response and there has been a huge impact on infrastructure which may take years to reinstate. There are several international appeals running if anyone feels they can help.

The Christchurch programme was reviewed via survey late last year to monitor retention and identification in public minds. The people responsible for this project are probably currently tied up with other matters as you may be aware there has been a significant and fatal earthquake in New Zealand in recent days. If someone wants to see the results of the survey I think I have them and can find out if the Christchurch bods are happy to share.
