Re: Retaining Behaviour Changes
2018-11-12 16:19:18 UTC
Lynn,
I prefer behavior change that require a single action but last a long time. Especially as it relates to energy.
Here are two examples
a) signing up for 100% wind energy . . . or Community Solar (solar farm)
b) putting solar panels on your home.

Re: Reducing Recycling Stream Contamination

Peter,
Not adjacent to bins. The items are taped to the table in the right category, I believe . .or maybe sometimes in a big box and people have to sort them into red, green, yellow parts of table. (Did you see the poster that is given out at the same time, to put on refrigerator?). So these items are just clean "samples", not to be tossed, but saved for the display table.
It works better if someone is there to answer questions but the version where the items are taped to the table cloth is self-explanatory, basically the poster in "3-D".
Hope this is clear? My first time posting here!

Erin,
Our town uses this little handout which helps differentiate what IS/IS NOT recyclable. It is color-coded: green, red, yellow.

At city festivals, we have a real table with the items laid out in the same pattern, red tablecloth, green table cloth, yellow tablecloth. It seems to be helping people understand what NOT to toss in.

Please contact Brenda Platt, [email protected] at the Institute for Local Self Reliance. Check out their website. They have done a lot of this work already. I did a survey for them in Dec 2013 on Community Based Composting. Let me know how it goes! Tell her I referred you. Lore Rosenthal.

Re: Roof-top Leasing for Solar Panels

Another smaller model is an LLC. Here in Greenbelt, MD 34 people put their money together ($130K) to purchase a solar array which we installed on a local church. We own the panels and sell the electricity to the church through a Power Purchase Agreement. Website: http://www.greenbeltcommunitysolar.com/
