Great article. It talked about recycling a plastic lined coffee cup twice. I believe it's because people would've other put it in paper or plastic bin and likely it doesn't belong in either because recycling facilities aren't designed to take this complex item. Unfortunately many items are complex and not easily recyclable. They don't get recycle d twice as they don't get recycled at all but end up in landfills once they get sorted out of the bin and discarded. The consumers are really unaware of how ineffective thecwhole recycling system is

Thanks for responding. I am focusing on more on use of gloves among consumers and if these are safer to use versus handwashing in prevention of transmission. I do see news articles about increased disposable gloves and masks in the environment as people toss them out or end up in garbage. I know there are health guidelines to follow but is there information that can be shared that explains when and why handwashing or a non plastic mask is safe to use. So we can encourage reduction of plastic based PPE products being used by consumers when it's not always necessary.

Have you looked at Surfrider website. Here in Victoria we have a number of campaigns similar to other surfrider chapters and are starting an educational series of blogs on SUP and COVID-19. I suggest that due to the pandemic your campaign will need to address fears of safety and perception that plastics are necessary at this time. This is being addressed in my blog on surfrider south vancouver island chapter.
