EV sales are up worldwide: Are incentives working?

Hi all,
Since world leaders are gathered at the UN's Climate Change Conference (COP 28) right now, I thought I'd share some good news related to the adoption of electric vehicles (EV) as one climate change solution. According to the Guardian, EV sales are growing very quickly worldwide, now accounting for 14% of global car sales. See diagram below. In European countries that sell the VW Golf, a report from the International Council for Clean Transportation found that the EVs (as opposed to diesel, gas, or hybrid) are the cheapest to own and run. This appears to be due to a combination of lower taxes, fuel costs, and rebates for EVs.
Further, barriers to increased EV adoption are slowly being met, as purchase prices are falling at the same time as battery sales are plummeting. Other barriers such as sufficient charging stations are still a significant challenge in some places, but overall it is encouraging to see these changes.
