I am an environmental and cultural geographer with research and teaching interests related to community water security; risk and resilience to environmental hazards; changing mountain livelihoods with attention to gender, adaptation, and innovation; geography education; and human dimensions of climate and cryosphere change. Before pursuing graduate studies, I served as a U.S. Peace Corps Volunteer from 1990 to 1992 in Chad, Central Africa. I have continue to be internationally engaged, primarily with a focus on mountainous South and Central Asia. In addition to my faculty postion, I am a Senior Fellow with the Maureen and Mike Mansfield Center and am active at the Fulbrigth U.S. Core Scholars Program campus liaison. My teaching spans the curriculum from introductory geography courses teaching about the world to graduate courses and seminars.
