Does anyone have or know of others that have checklists for how to reduce energy consumption in homes. This includes two checklists: 1.Things to do in new homes (construction, appliances, behavior) to reduce energy consumption 2.Things to do in retrofitting old homes (construction, appliances, behavior) for reduced energy consumption

John,
Have a look at "20/20 the Way to Clean Air" program. It's a great energy conservation planner administered by a number of municipalities in Ontario, Canada. http://www.toronto.ca/health/2020/

BuiltGreen is a program that promotes sustainable building practices to homeowners and operates in a few states and provinces. Each state/province has their own version of a checklist so you may want to do a general search for Built Green but here are a few websites to start with. www.builtgreen.net www.builtgreencanada.ca

There are many sources of tips and checklists on how to save energy in existing homes. The Alliance to Save Energy web site has a few: http://ase.org/section/_audience/consumers. We also have a brochure that can be downloaded at http://www.ase.org/powersmart. Here's EPA's web page on new home's that meet the Energy Star standards: http://www.energystar.gov/index.cfm?c=new_homes.nh_features
