Hello,
I am in the process of developing an energy and resource awareness program for a hospital and came across the concept of social marketing and really like the idea instead of just providing information overload. Unfortunately, the ball is rolling and I've stepped in late and can't take the time to implement the full social marketing concept. If you could suggest a few "must do's" what would that be? I'm thinking of implementing a program similar to the 1-2-3 pledge program that was done by the Utilitarian Church in the US (under Rick North). Any suggestion in relation to energy and resource conservation would be greatly appreciated. I looked on the website but none of the energy efficiency articles would come up for me.

Hi Shannon:
Here is an interesting hospital-related GHG reduction program that I learned about at a conference: In Ontario, a company called Blue Zone Technologies (www.bluezone.ca) has developed technology that enables them to capture, reclaim and purify anaesthetic gases to the point where this class of emissions is virtually eliminated. A patented product contained inside a canister and attached to the exhaust tubing of Anaesthetic Delivery Units has the potential to absorb 100% of vented gases. Ninety-five percent of these gases are then reclaimed and purified. This program has been implemented in Peterborough Regional Health Centre and offers significant cost savings to hospitals.
Good luck!
