Hi Everyone:
We are in the process of mapping all of the existing and proposed renewable energy resources for the Pioneer Valley region in Western Massachusetts, as part of our Pioneer Valley Regional Clean Energy Strategic Plan. We are looking for renewable energy symbols or icons that we can use on our regional GIS map, specifically for wind, solar PV, biomass, landfill gas, and small scale hydro. Our GIS department has specifically asked for the icons to be in a True Type Fonts format. Anyone out there is the great world of sustainability have these symbols or icons that they would be willing to share with us?
Thanks in advance for your help

Hi Jessica (and all),
You may (?) be able to use the Green Map icons - there are now hundreds of Green Map projects around the world, all sharing a common language of symbols (eg. if I was in Japan, I could tell from understanding the icons where a wind farm was on the map even though I can't read Japanese): www.greenmap.org/home/icons.html The Green Map(r) Icons are the heart of our global program. This collaboratively designed visual language identifies, promotes and links ecological and cultural resources on every Green Map. The award-winning Icons also link all the Green Maps together, helping green ideas and examples spread from city to city. The full rage of interconnections between nature, society and the designed environment can be illuminated with our set of 125 GMS Icons. Icons make the Green Maps easy to explore, regardless of the language and cultural orientation of the Mapmaker. Primarily, they represent beneficial green and cultural sites of every description, but there are also symbols for infrastructure, information resources and toxic hot spots. There is general agreement on each Icon's meaning , but the local Mapmakers determine precise definitions for the Icons they use. Mapmakers are also continually inventing new local icons of their own, many of which get "adopted" into the globally shared set - young people especially enjoy creating new place-based symbols! The icons are for the use of registered Green Map Makers and are copyright, so you will need to ask permission. It may be that you can register as a Green Mapper, and just use the energy icons? These icons are a font, but not sure a TTF.
