Does anyone know where I can find estimates of the effectiveness of strategies such as grasscycling and backyard composting for solid waste reduction? What kind of participation rates are reasonable to expect, given a well-thought-out marketing and education campaign? How much of a reduction in a city's solid waste might be achieved? Any articles, case studies, or contacts with current programs that might have applicable data would be helpful.
Thank you for your help!

Here in Seattle, WA, we have strong programs aimed at backyard composting as well as grasscycling. I suggest you start at www.seattle.gov/util and www.savingwater.org. They have done a fair amount of research/evaluation on the subject, and I'm sure they have diversion estimates for composting, as Seattle has a 60% recycling goal (and has recently begun to accept household organics with yard waste collection). If you are unable to find the information you need, please contact me directly and I will give you the contact information for some folks in the city who work on this.
