I work for the City of Windsor, Ontario, Canada and we are looking for information on cities that have successfully banned plastic bags. What process did the municipality follow to implement such a program? What obstacles were encountered? Etc. There is a small town in Manitoba that has recently banned plastic bags, as well as San Francisco. I am looking for contacts who were directly involved with the bans, so any assistance would be helpful. http://en.wikinews.org/wiki/Report_urges_Kenya_to_ban_plastic_bags

Rossland, British Columbia is in the process of eliminating plastic bags. It is entirely volunteer-driven, and in less than 3 weeks (with lots of prep time before-hand) we have: - created an education program for schools - designed a survey and gathered 353 responses so far - initiated retailer-retraining programs - applied for funding - researched alternatives to plastic bags - sourced potential sponsors - designed a website - written press releases and a newsletter for local MP, Alex Atamanenko - organized a community event for Earth Day Sea-to-Sky. plastic-bag free? Our volunteer coordinator, Tracey Saxby, is now working with Squamish, Pemberton, and Whistler to start similar plastic-bag reduction initiatives in the Sea-to-Sky corridor, aiming for a plastic-bag free Olympics in 2010. Very exciting! You can check out our website at www.greenerfootprints.com for more info.
