I am with the Burns Bog Conservation Society. At present, Burns Bog is being threatened with a road that has the potential to destroy it along with 100s of acres of farmland, the Fraser River estuary and one of the major stops on the Pacific Highway. The irony is that our Premier Gordon Campbell is saying nice things to Al Gore (when he was here last Saturday, Sept. 29) about how he is going green. My question: How do you go green and build a four-lane highway that will cover up 1000 acres of farmland, build a new rail yard with 17 tracks, put a huge container storage area on farmland, huge cloverleafs and overpasses and destroy the buffer between Burns Bog and the Fraser River which is the largest salmon-bearing river in the world (at least for now)? (Source: Speach by Councillor Vicki Huntington, Sept. 29/07 Unitarian Church) We need your help/advice.

FYI Burns Bog is the only known estuarine raised peat bog found in a Mediterreanan climate and the largest raised peat bog on the west coast of the Americas.

Sincerely,
Eliza Olson, B.Ed.
