Hi,
I'm looking for info on how to recover heat from waste water in hotels and how effective it can be.
Thanks

Heat Recovery for Hotels

Try this link from the U.S. department of energy. It text is written for households (not hotels) but since all waste-water heat recovery systems operate on the same principles (just larger units or more of them), it may be useful. http://www.eere.energy.gov/consumer/your_home/water_heating/index.cfm/mytopi c=13040

Hi Jim,
The viability of heat recovery from the waste water in hotels will vary drastically from hotel to hotel depending on the available waste water flow rate, temperature and quality and on the temperature of the incoming water to which you intend to add the waste heat. It will also depend on what you pay for the fuel that is used in the boiler that currently heats the incoming water. With a good plate heat exchanger you should be able to raise the temperature of the incoming water to within a few degrees of the leaving temperature of the waste water. This can be a very good pre-heater for domestic hot water. If you have some idea of the waste water flow rate and temperature any mechanical services consultant or heat exchanger supplier should be able to give you a good estimate of the cost of such a system and how long it will take to pay for itself.

John
