It seems increasingly apparent that just making better choices isn't enough -- "we can't consume our way out of this mess" as Alex Steffen of Worldchanging says. There is too much damage. Even if we were all to get to a one earth ecological footprint (seems impossible for 6B of us) there is still much to be done. I teach sustainability on-line and want to create an exercise about restoring for students. Ideally it would be educational / inspirational and coupled to ideas of CBSM. What would you suggest?

Thanks for any ideas! You guys are a great resource.

Backstory: I and my students are pretty careful -- eat local, low on the pyramid, low energy lighting and heat, mostly bike, limited air travel. Still about 1.5 earths for our footprints. So I offset -- not perfect, but I am paying to help restore. The projects I invest in are third party audited. I am sure there are other things to do (ever see _The Man Who Planted Trees_?)
