Several neighbors and I have had solar photovoltaic systems for slightly over a year, and there is anecdotal evidence that most of us have significantly reduced electricity usage in the first year of solar ownership. The effect is in the range of 10-30%. I think this is due to increased attention to everything having to do with electricity in our homes, and I wonder if it will be a permanent change. If this new, lower level of use is sustained over time, many of us will be in the situation of having "over-sized" solar systems because we chose the size of the systems based on prior usage levels. Does anyone know of a study that shows how electricity consumption changes in the first few years after adding solar PV to a home?

A fellow named James Keirstead has done some research into this and found 6% improvements on average. His phd thesis for university at Oxford in 2006 is "Behavioural responses to photovoltaic systems in the UK domestic sector " Cheers Robb Worthington [email protected] http://sustliving.blogspot.com/ Does anyone know of a study that shows how electricity consumption changes in the first few years after adding solar PV to a home?
