I'm looking for new ideas to refresh my pet waste education campaign I've been running for the past 4 years. We currently have bus signs that advertise our message two months out of the year, a banner to hang in town, and brochures we distribute to local businesses and at events. I was just wondering if anyone out there was doing anything new that seemed to be effective.
Thanks,

In Wisconsin, the Rock River Coalition did a newsletter article on pet waste and developed an Excel spreadsheet to help you calculate both the number of dogs in your community and the amount of waste that represents and ties in the number of people that do or don't pick up their pet waste. This link takes you to their homepage where you can get both the newsletter article and the calculator. There are some good handouts that go with. It sort of brings it home when you can calculate for your community.
Lake Macquarie Council in NSW Australia actually developed a TV ad with a couple of embarrassed dogs asking their owners help clean up behind them as they couldn't do it themselves. Might be something to research

Mary, our organization has had a fairly active campaign going in partnership with the Virginia Beach SPCA. More information can be found at http://www.lynnhavenrivernow.org/poop.html and http://vbspca.com/modules/vbspcaadvice/item.php?itemid=18 . Also, for $25, this SPCA sells wooden boxes that dispense baggies for use in picking up after dogs. These boxes can be placed at schools and in parks for use by frequenting dogs with owners. We also have a poster we developed featuring dogs in diapers that may be helpful in stimulating some ideas. I can e-mail it to you at your request.
