Does anyone know of any resources appropriate for bringing the ideas of community-based social marketing to teenagers? I am doing waste reduction actions projects in High Schools and want to help the students learn how to foster sustainable behaviour in their schools. I'm looking for hands-on, fun activities that help to create participation in behaviours that reduce waste.
Much appreciated!

Dear Carolyn:
Last year at UC Davis, the Grounds Division (which oversees R4, a recycling unit on campus) worked with a couple of Design professors and a class of Design students to create a poster series about waste reduction. Granted, this was a poster series, not a hands-on activity set, and it was aimed at a university campus population, not high school, but they did use CBSM principles and some catchy design work. If you are interested in contacting someone who worked on that project, try Katie Hetrick, with Grounds, [email protected].

I always have liked this Canadian publication:

If that link doesn't work, you can go to the website at

It's the Canadian Centre for Pollution Prevention.
