I'm looking for research or programs that have been done to reduce consumers' purchase of products with high amounts of plastic packaging (styrofoam balls, bubble wrap, styrofoam inserts, plastic clamshells) as these aren't readily recyclable in our area. Has anyone worked with prompts or incentives to encourage better consumption?
Thanks.

Hi Maleea,
A few band-aid solutions that might inspire other policies while we transition away from these destructive substances, and hopefully have government regulate against their uses.
In Vancouver, the recycling hotline suggests that consumers take styrofoam, bubble wrap and clean packing materials to post offices and Mailboxes Etc. type shipping outlets to be reused.
A grocery delivery (Spud.ca) drops grocery in reusable ""tuperware" bins with freezable cold packs and reusable packaging. Customers are charged a deposit fee and place these items back in the bin for pickup at the following delivery.
Look to Germany for programs where customers have the right to refuse packaging and leave it in the store.
