Hi there,
We are looking for a survey and research company that employs CBSM techniques and analysis, and that understands how to properly formulate survey questions to uncover barriers and benefits. In addition to these skills, we are seeking someone to design a pilot program for the Calgary District dealing with water well maintenance. Any ideas? Or names of potential contractors I can send out the RFP to???
Thanks!
Cheryl.

Hi Cheryl,
I am the Development and Evaluation Manager for a not-for-profit organization called One Change. Our mission is to empower people to believe that simple actions matter and to make smart energy choices in their daily lives. To do this, One Change delivers community-based social marketing campaigns, our most successful of which is Project Porchlight. Project Porchlight campaigns have operated in four provinces (Alberta being the largest) as well as two US states (New Jersey and Vermont). The One Change approach and our slogan "Simple Actions Matter" are amenable to a number of causes, including that of water conservation. One Change has in fact been in recent discussions with the Clean Water Foundation regarding potential campaign and program opportunities to promote residential water conservation. We have worked in conjunction with a variety of research firms to construct surveys that effectively measure barriers to adopting resource-conscious behaviours. We have extensive experience in Alberta since we have delivered a province-wide campaign on energy efficiency to the province in two phases, while measuring the impact of the campaign along the way. Our campaigns were found to be extremely successful across all types of Alberta communities, influencing the attitudes as well as the behaviour of residents engaged. I would be happy to discuss our process of recruiting evaluation firms to conduct our research and would be very interested in partnering with you in order to share experiences in researching barriers, overcoming them through effective messaging, and measuring their impact. In any case, we look forward to hearing more about Calgary District's upcoming plans to roll out water-related community-based social marketing campaigns. As a result of our Project Porchlight campaign in Alberta, we have developed relationships with more than 3,500 volunteers and 300 community groups all across the province who are eager to contribute to the next One Change. These are resources that we believe would definitely be of value to your project. Please keep in touch and be sure to consider us for both RFPs as we would welcome the opportunity to work with Calgary District on this project.
All the best,
Lisa Hatina

Hi Cheryl,
Although we have offices in Toronto and Halifax, we do work across the country. In fact, I gave a CBSM seminar in Edmonton earlier this year at the Waste: The Social Context conference (and in Saskatoon in the fall of 2007). We have provided CBSM surveying and research for the CRD in BC since 2006, and have worked in every province, in the UK and the Caribbean. We also have a partner in Alberta who we work with, if you feel you need someone local. Also, this year we worked on a large well maintenance research project with Well Aware in Ontario, to develop a better approach to fostering better awareness, understanding and maintenance of wells. That research included surveying people with wells, experts in wells, installers and farmers, with separate surveys for each sector. We would be pleased to receive your rfp.
Cheers,
Ken Donnelly
