Hi, I am looking for information on project examples or research done in Canada or other countries on recycling bike tires and tubes. I live in a small Canadian east coast city (Halifax) population around 400,000 people and the province has a well established recyling program for household waste and recycleables. The problem for bike tires and tubes is capacity. Any information on this subject will be helpful. Thanks, Scott.

I have spoken to a couple of auto tire recyclers in the Midwest (U.S.) about recycling bike tires. Bottom line was that while they definitely could accept and process bike tires & tubes, the charge for that service is greater than the costs of landfilling. The business model works for auto tire recycling because auto tires are prohibited from landfills (in most U.S. states). Not the same for bicycle tires. So if you are willing to pay the price, then find a tire recycler and they should have no problems processing your bike tires and tubes.
