I recently released my film Powerful: Energy for Everyone, which looks at how we use energy in our cities and communities, including our home lives, and what a more democratic and sustainable energy future looks like. The film is a great resource for teaching, public discussion and city outreach initiatives. I encourage you to have a look at the film description, and a set of clips from Powerful which I recently posted on YouTube.

My question is if others can recommend good film/video resources that are upbeat and solutions-focused, in the same way Powerful is? I can only show my own film just so many times, and want to have a list of complementary resources to recommend to my networks.

Hi David, I just looked at Young Voices on Climate Change, it's shows what students are doing around the world to address climate change - very uplifting!
Lynne Cherry is the producer. www.lynnecherry.com
or youngvoicesonclimatechange.com. I'll check out your film and get back to you because an organization I'm involved in sponsors a monthly environmental film series and always needs new films plus we're doing two film festivals you may want to show in. This WEdensday we're sponsoring a screening of climate Refugees, as part of national USGBC chapter screening, the Miami Science Museum

Thanks Robert and Gabriole.
Certainly I would be most interested in having Powerful: Energy for Everyone considered for public screenings, film series and festivals. Just drop me a line at david[at]davidc.ca and let me know what you are considering. For public screenings, there is a standard screening license fee, and for festivals I would provide an exhibition copy.
Cheers,
David

David-
I recently viewed a film produced by ABC Australia: A Sustainable Star. It features Germany's transition to renewable energy sources and community distributed generation is predominantly featured. It profiles both the challenges Germany is facing in transitioning and the successes communities are championing. Not sure where you might find a copy; I received mine through my monthly subscription to Ironweed Films - July 2010. (www.ironweedfilms.com)

This is a short 3 minute animated film we produced to make our staff aware of how energy is wasted and how they can save it

Here's a couple of examples from NZ - the first is the government energy efficiency agency's series of TV commercials to promote energy efficiency in the home. They are quite NZ focussed but might be of interest (there are 29 epidoes so far): http://www.energywise.govt.nz/energyspot
The second is a young film makers' award on the topic of sustainability. The winner from each year are worth a look for inspiration: http://www.theoutlookforsomeday.net/winning-films/

My Web site, GlobalResourcesNews.com, is actively and constantly screening for high-quality video. The emphasis is always on sustainability, and solution-focused work is a very high priority.
Also, I've passed your information on to other like-minded videographers and Web-video producers here in Washington DC for their consideration.
