Social Norm Tipping Points or Thresholds

Im studying public perception of global warming as a long-term challenge among residents of a state. Im looking for research that could help me better understand how pervasive appreciation of the problem must be before it becomes a social norm. Is there a threshold or tipping point that leads to widespread dissemination and adoption of an idea?
