Hello,
Ive been asked to put together a recycling competition for K-12 schools (similar to Recycle Mania - http://recyclemania.org/). Does anyone have any research into the use of competitions for behavior change? Ive found a few things on-line but a lot of the books Ive looked at use competition as competing for other behaviors. I was wondering about games and their effect to change behavior also.
Thanks for your help.

Hi Kelley,
I'm currently in charge of a small-scale recycling competition amongst 6 schools in Cincinnati, OH. The competition has been funded by a grant, and allowed us to provide recycling materials, as well as education in each school. In addition to simply teaching the students what to recycle, we've been in during their lunch periods to ask recycling questions with small prizes, such as stickers and zipper pulls, for correct answers. We're also putting on recycling assemblies in which 2 teams of high school students compete by separating a pile of randomly assembled materials in containers for recycling, landfill waste, compost and "other."
Hope this helps!
