FELLOWSHIP IN ASSESSMENT OF ENVIRONMENTAL ATTITUDE AND
BEHAVIOR TRANSFORMATION
Oberlin College invites applications for a Research Fellow in assessment of environmental attitude and behavior transformation to study and enhance the work of the Oberlin Project. This is a full-time appointment for one year with the possibility of renewal for a second year, dependent upon performance and availability of funding.
Responsibilities: The Oberlin Project is a collaborative effort between the City of Oberlin and Oberlin College to create a replicable model of a prosperous and sustainable post-fossil fuel community. A central goal of the Project is to transform the social as well as physical and economic systems in ways that enhance sustainability and community resilience. Social transformation will involve changes in the attitudes, knowledge, behavior, social norms, and social networks of Oberlin community members, leaders, and city and college employees. The work of the Postdoctoral Fellow will be to document and inform social transformation through the collection of baseline data, through Community Based Social Marketing (CBSM) research, and through other community-focused strategies. The Fellow will also work to develop generalizable metrics of social system transformation that can be easily communicated and applied to a developing network of other communities engaged in parallel efforts.
Requirements: Candidates must have a Ph.D. degree or equivalent, or be ABD with near-term defense date in social psychology, marketing, or other relevant discipline; a demonstrated interest in sustainability issues; the ability to design and execute effective research programs; proficiency in survey research and quantitative data analysis; excellent organizational and project management skills; and writing and presentation skills.
Desired Qualifications: Experience with qualitative data analysis, community-based research, and working as an effective team member on highly collaborative projects are strongly desired.
Compensation: Salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications and includes an excellent benefits package.
