I'm looking for some specific information on how a manufacturing company reduced its energy consumption. I've looked at some standards and US government resources, but have found only general information (measure, then reduce!). I'm especially interested in plastics manufacturing, but any kind of manufacturing would be useful.
I appreciated your advice and support.

Hi Tom: Follow this link to the sustainability info page for Armstrong Flooring. There may be some info on reduction og enegy consumption there.
http://www.armstrong.com/corporate/environmental-focus.html
You could also check out some of the research compiled by Bob Willard as you will most likely find links to other specific companies there as well.

Hope that is helpful.

Hi Tom,
The Australian Government currently has funding available for manufactures to reduce their carbon emissions (see http://www.cleanenergyfuture.gov.au/manufacturers-reduce-costs-with-first-round-of-grants/). Perhaps that funding body Ausindustry could provide case studies from successful applicants.
Cheers,
Julie

Hello everyone,
Thank you for your advice and comments so far! I thought I'd share a link that I found through Julie's recommendations, from the Australian Department of Resources, Energy, and Tourism, which provides links to many PDF case studies. They are a little general, but do brush on some key engineering areas in which the studies focused.

Thanks again for all the help, and I look forward to more advice!

As a follow up to my previous posting re Armstrong Flooring; I confused my companies, it was Anderson Flooring I was thinking of and they have been renamed to "interfaceflor" You may want to check out thier story about thier journey in the direction of sustainability.

Hi Tom,
In terms of engineering efficiency, the most exciting example I have heard of is the engineer Lee Eng Lock, described in the book Factor Four. http://bit.ly/QbdiI8
Factor Four is a Club of Rome publication about how to maintain current standards with 80% less energy. Factor Five has just been published, which is case studies about companies that have achieved Factor Four in the 15 years since the original publication.
