Keep America Beautiful
Environmental Literacy Special Session at our National Conference
Wednesday, January 30, 2012, 3-5:30pm
Omni Shoreham Hotel by Woodley Park

As part of our 60th Anniversary and National Conference in Washington, DC in January 2013, Keep America Beautiful (KAB) is assembling national experts and key stakeholder organizations to discuss the state of Environmental Literacy in the United States. The session is KAB's effort to assemble key leaders and implementers from the environmental education and community improvement communities for a focused discussion on a current, relevant topic of interest to the group. The overarching objective is to build the knowledge base among leaders and identify opportunities to advance ideas and synergies.

BACKGROUND
Keep America Beautiful has been involved in environmental stewardship and environmental education for six decades, and continues to explore new programs and partnerships to enhance environmental literacy among community leaders, student population and faculty, employees of organizations and businesses with an interest in a more environmentally educated work force, as well as the general public. KABs programs (e.g., Recycle-Bowl, Waste In Place, National Planting Day, America Recycles Day) aim to change attitudes and encourage positive behaviors so that people are equipped to make responsible decisions and take action to improve and protect their communities environments. These goals are very closely aligned to the concept of environmental literacy, and it is KABs goal to become a leading organization that promotes and spreads environmental literacy through its programs.
