I will be delivering introductory, advanced and masters community-based social marketing training in Australia and New Zealand in March/April of 2016. These are the only trainings that I will be delivering in Australia and New Zealand in 2016. These workshops will be of particular interest to agencies working to control invasive species, promote energy efficiency, waste reduction, conservation, water efficiency, sustainable food consumption, modal transportation changes and other sustainable actions. Community-based social marketing is a unique approach to fostering both environment and health related behavioural changes and is now being utilized globally. Descriptions of these workshops are provided below.

About the Speaker

Dr Doug McKenzie-Mohr is the founder of community-based social marketing. Recommended by Time magazine, his book Fostering Sustainable Behaviour has become requisite reading for those who deliver environment and health related programs. The approaches that Dr McKenzie-Mohr advocates in these workshops are now being utilized globally. For example, Queenslands Home WaterWise Service and ClimateSmart Home Service, which reached over 500,000 households across the state, made extensive use of community-based social marketing. Dr McKenzie-Mohr has delivered community-based social marketing workshops for over 60,000 environmental program managers internationally. Below is a small sample of recent anonymous evaluations:

-Fantastic, simply invaluable.

-This is hands-down the most valuable workshop/training Ive ever attended.

-Speaker was wonderful.

-Superb presentation skills.

-By far, the best workshop I have attended on any topic!

Who should Attend?

These workshops will be of interest to those working to promote control of invasive species, waste reduction, water and energy efficiency, conservation, modal transportation changes, watershed protection, and other sustainable behaviour changes. Those who work to promote behavioural changes that promote health, such as active lifestyles, sun protection and immunization, will also benefit from attending. Descriptions of both workshops are provided below.

Introductory Workshop (Brisbane March 1-2, Melbourne March 7-8, Auckland March 29-30): The two-day introductory workshop provides a comprehensive introduction to community-based social marketing and how it is being applied throughout the world to foster sustainable behaviours. Those who attend the workshop will learn the five steps of community-based social marketing (selecting behaviours, identifying barriers, developing strategies, conducting pilots, and broad scale implementation) and be exposed to numerous case studies illustrating its use. Each participant will receive a copy of the third edition of "Fostering Sustainable Behaviour: An Introduction to Community-Based Social Marketing." The introductory workshop is a mandatory prerequisite for the advanced workshop.

Advanced Workshop (Brisbane 3-4, Melbourne, March 9-10, Auckland March 31 - April 1): This completely new two-day advanced workshop provides an in-depth exploration of how community-based social marketing can be used to foster sustainable behaviour. This workshop introduces new research on selecting behaviours, identifying barriers and benefits (including market segmentation, survey sampling and survey creation), applying behaviour change tools (including some exciting new developments regarding the use of commitments, norms, prompts, goal setting, and social diffusion), and piloting programs. The workshop also addresses the effective use of social media and websites in the fostering of sustainable behaviour. Further, participants will also be coached in making community-based social marketing presentations to their agency or community and will receive PowerPoint and Keynote presentations for this purpose. This workshop is restricted to individuals who have previously attended Dr McKenzie-Mohr's introductory workshop. If you have not yet attended an introductory workshop, you can attend the introductory workshop that precedes the advanced workshop in either Brisbane, Melbourne or Auckland and then attend the advanced workshop as well. Reduced rates are available for attending both sessions.

Masters Workshop ( Melbourne, March 17-18): This unique workshop builds upon the introductory and advanced community-based social marketing workshops offered by Dr McKenzie-Mohr (having attended both the introductory and advanced workshops are mandatory prerequisites). The purpose of the Masters workshop is straightforward -- to ensure that each attendee gains the knowledge, experience and confidence that will allow them to successfully apply community-based social marketing to any behavioural change initiative. Unlike conventional workshops, a significant portion of the learning in the Masters workshop occurs before and after the session. This comprehensive learning experience is comprised of four components (three one-on-one video conference calls and a two-day workshop). This structure was created to provide attendees with the opportunity to gain the necessary knowledge and skills through a carefully crafted process in which each participant is individually coached as they develop their own unique CBSM program. It is important that participants register well in advance of the Masters workshop to provide ample opportunity to select the behaviour that you will be targeting and conduct barrier and benefit research regarding this behaviour. Please note that space in this workshop is limited register early to avoid disappointment.
