I have a student who will be working on an independent project summer of 07 with drs eckert (husband/wife) in Trinada they are ecologists I am not--she wants to survey villagers to try and determine why some villages conserve while other slaughter turtles---I know about surveys and interviewing but nothing about surveys in this situation of with sea turtles---any leads?

This group in Yucatan Mexico works with the community on sustaining local biodiversity. I am not sure if they directly work with Turtles, but they would certainly know others in Mexico and perhaps the Caribbean that do. There is similar work being undertaken in Fiji with local villages and their chiefs. Try contacting someone at Kula eco-Park for a lead into this work.

1 dont use the word slaughter - it is quite loaded
