In my mind CBSM strategies are different than community-based strategies. I think community-based approaches for energy efficiency are interventions which are specifically customized to the population and situation being targeted. The target community's characteristics such as its social network, resources and culture are important in community-based approach but not in CBSM. Please let me know your thoughts about this issue. Also, please let me know if you know any energy efficiency practice which is using community-based approach and CBSM strategies. Your insight would be greatly appreciated.

Effective social marketing requires an understanding of the audience. Thus, it is important to understand a community's culture and resource to design "products" (an affluent urban community might adopt a practice that would be inconceivable in a poor rulr one) and messages about those products, and it is important to understand social networks to devise channels for communication and perhaps also to determine who might be the early adopters or role models within a community to which you might target certain messages. Social marketing can be seen as one tool in a comprehensive community based approach to change.
