I am a graduate student an I would like to see if anybody has information about the effectiveness of house audits in energy conservation. Does people adopt suggestions given to them? What is their motive, money saving or reducing their CO2? Any help on this will be really appreciated.

You can search for evaluation reports by California utilities on the searchable database at www.calmac.org (keyword "audits"). Effectiveness in terms of measures implemented in residences after audits is usually measured by follow-up surveys, if it is measured at all. Often the surveys emphasize "satisfaction." Audit programs are typically evaluated less rigorously (in terms of results) compared with incentive, grant, or rebate programs.

This is something that I am very interested in too. Thank you for posting this. We (Arlington County Government) have conducted several energy audits for residents as part of our Fresh AIRE program (Arlington Initiative to Reduce Emissions). We are posting the case studies as we complete them on our website (links below). It has been a mixed bag and several homes have implemented changes based on the audit findings, some are still evaluating the results, and yet others have chosen to do nothing. While we don't have any statistical data (yet), we should have more info in 10-16 months. Getting to the motive is even more difficult, especially in a statistical context. We have found it to be a blend of 'moral imperative' meets 'cost benefit analysis' of financial savings.
