Hello everyone, I am currently collecting mass quantities of circular pant hemming scraps from lululemon athletica. Each week roughly 50-100 pairs of pants get anywhere from 1-6 inches taken off the bottom and before now these scraps were simply tossed, I am now collecting them and was wondering if anyone knew any companies or had and great ideas as to permanent recycling of these fabric scraps, (they are usually nylon/spandex fuse or organic cotton).
Thanks

Depending on where you are, you can advert them on Freecycle. They sound ideal for a large-scale fiber-art project. You might try putting an ad in arts/crafts on Craigslist, contacting your local art or design school, or art teachers in High-school. I know here in Minneapolis, you could reach a large number of textile artists through the Textile Center, look for something analagous.

Hi Dave
I'd suggest you contact a craft group of some sort and give the scraps to crafters. The two links that I have are for Craft Magazine that blogs regularly and is read by thousands weekly: http://blog.craftzine.com/ Maybe email the craft editor here: [email protected] or the owners of etsy, a site where crafters gather to sell their hand-made products: http://www.etsy.com/ here: [email protected] or maybe your best bet: http://www.buyhandmade.org/why-buy-handmade (not sure of the correct email here, but have a look at some of the links here - there is sure to be at least one that wants the scraps!) This is a fabulous movement with over 10,000 people who have pledged to buy handmade goods rather than brand-new.
Good luck with this!
Amanda
Why not make them shorter in the first place? The Environmental Awareness slogan (Reduce, Re-use, Re-cycle) emphasizes that REDUCE is the most important of all.

Hello David,
Look for a Commercial/Industrial Waste Exchange service similar to www.bcimex.ca (British Columbia) or www.materialtrader.org (Pennsylvania) in your state. (We provide about 9 of these services in the United States and Canada) We provide a residential service for Boulder at www.ecocycleexchange.com but I don't know if there's a commercial/industrial service in your State.
