Short-sighted "ethics." We can then look forward to the disappearance of grey squirrels (like carrier pigeons), and sardines off the hydrogen-sulfide generating ocean waters off the coast of Namibia.* It's all a matter of scale, and we have exceeded by far the boundaries of sustainable scale without major changes in worldview.
