Anyone have a recommendation for a Graduate Program in Environmental Education with a focus on teaching adult learners? I'm counseling an artist with Project Art for Nature who is looking for a degree program. What she wants to pursue is teaching adults to be participants in the natural world....more an ecopsychology track, I think. So far what she's found have emphases on K-12 education. Any location is ok, need not be in USA. At this point, it's exemplars that are most needed.
Thanks for the help.

Hi Karen,
I am currently a student at Royal Roads University in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. I have enjoyed the program immensely so far. Considering that it will also be the future home of the Robert Bateman Art and Environmental Education Centre, this would be just up your alley. Check out: http://www.royalroads.ca/programs/graduate/

Hi Karen-
I would recommend Antioch University New England's Environmental Education program, located in Keene, NH. It's one of the few EE programs housed within an Environmental Studies Department. Here's the link: http://www.antiochne.edu/es/ee/
Antioch also has an excellent Individualized program in the ES department that allows students to combine interests such as art and writing with environmental studies. Furthermore, a new faculty member just joined - Carol Saunders who is teaching courses on Conservation Psychology. I am an alum and would be happy to speak to your colleague.

There is a 1 year post-graduate program in Sudbury, ON called Science Communication. While it does not focus on adult learners or environmental science it is certainly a very effective course at teaching scientists how to communicate science to the general public. I am a graduate of the program and found it to be a very complimentary course to my BSc in Environmental Science. For more information go to www.sciencecommunication.ca

Perhaps one of the graduate degrees at Naropa University in Boulder, Colorado, would be of interest: http://www.naropa.edu/academics/graduate/index.cfm

I run a small and quirky MA program in Environmental Education and Communication at Royal Roads University in Victoria BC, and would be happy to talk to anyone looking at a graduate program in EEC.

Karen,
Here are another alternative for master's degree programs with Lesley University, Cambridge, MA, Audubon Expedition Institute:
* M.S. in Ecological Teaching and Learning, http://www.lesley.edu/gsass/audubon/etl_program.html
* M.S. in Ecological Leadership and Education, http://www.lesley.edu/gsass/audubon/gprog.html Audubon
Expedition Institute offers higher education that fosters ecological awareness and personal and societal transformation through immersion in a variety of environments and cultures, critical reflection, and experiential learning communities. As learners, we awaken to a deeper sense of participation within the web of life and engage in lifelong ecological and social justice and responsible global citizenship. I am an alum of Lesley University / AEI and would be happy to speak about AEI / Lesley University's Environ. Ed. programs.
