Hi All
I'm looking for information to assist in developing community education programs about energy efficiency and conservation. More specifically, I am looking for education tools or guides or models that have been used with householders/local communities. I have found many many fact sheets, but I'm looking for resources that are bit more action oriented.
Thanks

Hi Danielle,
Council is supporting three energy conservation educational (action elements) programs at the moment which you may like to investigate;
1. EnergyWise (an energy appliance tester tool and tips book loaned through our library)
2. Low Carbon Diet (educational workbook for households and community groups)
3. Climate Smart Home Service (retrofit program to fit homes with energy efficient light bulbs and energy monitors etc plus sustainability tips)
All of these programs have been developed by the Qld State Government and are supported at a Local Government level.
Feel free to call for more information +61 7 4688 6773.
Warmest regards,
Candice

Hi Danielle,
You can also check out the Energy Saving Reminders developed by EnergyAustralia. They were given out with The Sun Herald a while back, but are still available for use and/or purchase (depending on quantity) through EnergyAustralia. They are little rubber adhesives that are Action Statements that you place at the point of the Action, eg. "Save Energy: Use Cold Water" to place on your washing machine.
Best of luck!

Danielle,
Participants in the pilot of the Climate Master program reduced their energy use by 20% per heating degree day and 2 annual tons of greenhouse gas emissions per person. The program was developed by the University of Oregon Climate Leadership Initiative as a replicable model, and we're now working with communities in Oregon and across the country to initiate their own programs. For more information, visit: http://climlead.uoregon.edu/programs/replicateclimatemaster.html

Hi:
You could also check out our local electrical utility BC Hydro Powersmart http://bchydro.com/powersmart/. They offer some fairly dynamic programming.

Hi Danielle,
sounds like the Be Energy Smart Toolkit and worksheet at http://www.dtei.sa.gov.au/energy/be_energy_smart/home_energy_audit may be of interest. There's currently 120+ toolkits for loan through public libraries in South Australia.

The Parks and Recreation department of the municipality of Anchorage is planning on planting trees (willows) to offset their carbon footprint. Has any similar entity done this? I'm hoping to get advice on what has worked best for this sort of education/action campaign. I'm familiar with calculating, etc. but with the wide range of websites out there, perhaps you can suggest the best ones to use for reference. Thanks.

"Branches and Banks" of Cochrane Alberta has just completed their 13th successful year. Since they began, they have planted close to 32,000 trees along the banks of Cochranes rivers in an effort to restore and protect riparian health. The success has been in large part due to a high level of community involvement for a result that is tangible and visible. The carbon trading was not even an issue when they started. River bank clean-up and habitat restoration are the keys. Check out their web site at:
