Hello everyone,
I am looking for information on stewardship programs that encourage local governments and private landowners to protect wildlife trees (other than WiTS in British Columbia). Thanks

Hi Holly,
Evergreen works with community groups, landowners, foundations, municipal governments, local land trusts, non-governmental organizations and the corporate sector to establish partnerships for the restoration and care of public spaces that included wildlife and trees. Check out our web site at www.evergreen.ca, for mor information on our programs as well as funding opportuntiies.
Also, Trees Ontario is a gathering of experts from science, forestry, government, community groups and the business world that plants trees and forests throughout Ontario. For more information on their programs, their web site is, treesontario.on.ca.
Hope this information helps

In the US we have Project Learning Tree http://www.plt.org/events/index.cfm
They have an online curriculum on Biodivrsity that may be of interest: http://www.plt.org/cms/pages/21_21_16.html
PLT is a product of the American Forest Foundation (contact info is on their web site).
Good Luck!

Hey Holly,
In australia we have a Land for Wildlife program that educates and assists local landholders in protecting and enhancing their native vegetation.
see: http://www.seqcatchments.com.au/LFW.html or http://www.logan.qld.gov.au/lcc/logan/environment/biodiversity/cip/landforwildlife.htm
A few of the local council also run programs for smaller properties.
Other initiatives are running free community workshops.
cheers
