Hello. I'm looking for existing programs aimed at teaching children in grades 4 through 12 about species at risk. They can be in-school programs or programs administered by government or conservation organizations. Any links you can provide would be great. We're developing an Aquatic Species at Risk Outreach and Education program for Ontario primarily and looking for good examples of existing programs and activities.
Thanks in advance! And I'll be happy to share our progress and final products.

Hi Laura,
Here in Charleston we have a program called LEEP (Lowcountry Environmental Education Programs). It is a nonprofit organization that partners with schools and other entities to promote environmental education and sustainable practices. They may have curriculum and experience that could be helpful: SCLEEP.org

Hello Laura:
The Royal Botanical Gardens has an interesting approach to SAR education that is well suited to reaching both local and more remote classrooms. I have attached on the flyers.

Please check out some of the programs that have been developed by the province of Alberta. The department of Sustainable Resource Development is responsible for land and biodiversity in the province. Other materials have been developed by Alberta Environment may be helpful as well. Here are two links:

Hi everyone, my name is Jeri Hallberg Harmon, I live in El Paso, Texas.
I am currently a student with WCS, where I linked into your website. I am interested in raptor conservation especially here in the southwest United States. El Paso, use to be a somewhat sleepy retirement community and is now evolving into a full blown boomtown and megalopolis. We are on the US MEXICAN border across the river from Juarez, Mexico.

Laura, There is a Project WET - Worldwide Water Education for Teachers and they have a Canadian presence, http://projectwet.org/where-we-are/location/canada/
My son helped teach this workshop to two groups this year. It sounds like it's more on water basics rather than species at risk but perhaps they're working on something you could use.
