Has there been any research on reward and recognition instruments which encourage and foster positive environmental behaviour? Examples: a recognition program (window decal) for meeting an energy performance standard; a special bike plate that recognizes a commitment to regular bike commuting.

Dennis Embry has researched reward/reminder efforts in areas of behavior change such as reducing the frequency of retail sales of tobacco products to minors.
