Hello,
We (Doug McKenzie-Mohr and I) are looking for successful case studies related to Water Efficiency, such as indoor programs targeted at toilet replacement, installation of low flow showerheads, and taking shorter showers, as well as outdoor programs targeted at water-efficient lawn care. Specifically, we are looking for information on how the program was delivered, including a summary of the program, a behavior evaluation, budget per capita, and cost/benefit analysis. If you know of a program of interest but were not directly involved, please feel free to send us a link to websites or reports!
The most successful programs will be reviewed in the new book co-authored by Doug McKenzie-Mohr, Nancy Lee, Wes Schultz and Phil Kotler.
Thanks in advance for any assistance you can provide us!

Hi Amanda,
I'm not sure of the details, or who really that you could contact.
But in 2007, South East Queensland (Australia) was feeling the effects of one of the worst droughts on record. Hence State and local governments implemented numerour water efficiency schemes. One of which was called "target 140" http://www.qwc.qld.gov.au/tiki-read_article.php?articleId=72
there was a heap of things going on at the time, you might be able to contact the Qld Water Commission for details

Hello Amanda,
I know that Halton was promoting rain barrels for everyone in all areas of Halton last summer. It was a huge success. Not sure if that data would help you. Good luck.

Check out the Denver Water Company, whose slogan is "Use Only What You Need". they have many buttons people wear to that effect. They have done social marketing research on their initiatives. One intiative was to load up huge bottles of water on a big cart pulled behind a truck showing how much water is wasted in a year if you let it drip. contact them at denverwater.org for more information. Because of a recent drought and because of Colorado's arcane water laws with regards to the Colorado River use and uses for other Colo. rivers, the issue of water was almost at a crisis level. A large percentage of residential water was going into lawns, so one of their campaigns focused on zero-scaped lawns. -

The Regional Municipality of York has a great program for indoor and outdoor water conservation called Water for Tomorrow. The program has been running for a number of years and has included initiatives such as personalized lawn and garden visits, toilet rebate programs, rain barrel programs, information kits, demonstrations and water efficient garden design workshops, presentations at community events, linkages to the Children's water festival, and others. Information about the program can be found at www.waterfortomorrow.ca

The City of Phoenix has been providing total fixture retrofits for low-income areas for more than 10 years. About 15 months ago we switched to HETs as part of the program, as well as showerheads, aerators or faucets, checking for leaks, and examining outside hosebibs. If this is something would be of interest to you, I can provide information. We use a contractor for the program
