We are in the process of setting up a CSA in West Wales, and are investigating ways of low/no carbon distribution system to outlying areas, does anyone have any examples of this?

Darren,
Revolution Rickshaws is delivering via rickshaw vans a CSA right now for Norwich Meadows Farm here in NYC.
Metro Pedal Power in Boston is delivering for multiple CSAs via rickshaw van.
Via Velo in Alexandria, VA (outside Washington, D.C.) delivers locally for a CSA.
You've got the manufacturer of the trikes we all use - Cycles Maximus - right in your back yard in Bath.

P.S. When you give them a ring, tell them Gregg (their U.S. agent) sent ya!

Darren,
they also have electric assist trikes available, if the terrain is hilly.
Bakfeits from Holland are great for longer distance deliveries, and if you have substantial amounts of foods to be delivered far, you could deploy multiple Bakfeits . . . though there's a point at which labor may become cost prohibitive?
Best,
Gregg

Your post reminds me of this successful partnership - a retailer working with a bike club to relocate his business:

Not in the nicest weather, either.
Hmmm, what IS the carbon footprint of CSA? I would assume it is quite low already.

At the National Zoo, about 20 employees participate in CSAs with two farms, which deliver to the zoo - just one round trip brings food to 10 people, as opposed to 10 people making their own way to the farm or their neighborhood delivery location. I don't know if that helps you at all but it's a wonderful lower carbon arrangement for us.
Best wishes for your CSA,
Gaby
