I'm looking for any information on 'nana' technology - if there has been any research into the area of 'getting back to bacics' through making your own/growing yor own/repairing, simplifing your lifestyle etc. If anyone has done any leaflets/brochures on this or evaluations etc. Your assistance is very much appreciated.

Hi Lisa,
Try the Australian magazine "Earth Garden" which is in its 38th Year of publication. It is a grassroots magazine with articles on 'nana' technology written by contributors. Go to www.earthgarden.com.au. This will have links to organisations and publications that will also be of help. Best wishes,

In NZ we appreciate the value of mixed-age (and often majority female) groups learning together about sustainable practices, such as in the evening classes promoted by local councils in 23 areas through Sustainable Living Education Trust. See: www.sustainableliving.org.nz

Hi Lisa, Just wondered if some of the Transition Towns material would be of assistance. There are several groups currently progressing through this in Australian towns.
I know some sustainability networks are also running workshops on some of the older skills, eg. Baw Baw Sustainability Network has had food drying & bread making workshops and is about to run a fruit tree grafting session. The Network has asked community members what other things they want to learn about and for people to volunteer their skills. At Cowes there was a group run a session on Vocola bottling and bought items in bulk/wholesale to assist with participants' costs.
To my knowledge here are no brochures or research as you mention you would like, but there is certainly activity happening at many levels.
There also is a book out by ABC presenter Juanita Phillips that might be of assistance - "The pressure cooker saved my life", which she wrote after suffering a physical breakdown - juggling work, family, new house & mortgage etc. and how she and her husband simplified their lives as a means to regaining health.

A good place to start is the simple living/voluntary simplicity movement, e.g. http://www.simpleliving.net/
Good luck!
