I present in high schools on transportation issues, and my organization is hosting an Essay Contest on Active Transportation. We are encouraging students to write short essays, around 500 words, on the most exciting and important reasons why they choose human powered transportation.
I am looking for sample writings to share with the classes that I present to that are short, accessible and informative about walking, biking or other active modes.

We are offering a cash prize for the winning essay (probably of $50 or so) and the essay will be published in a local newspaper and on our website/in our newsletter.
We are also encouraging teachers to offer extra credit or have an essay be a class assignment.
