Greetings. The Town of Canmore has a goal stating that "50% of the community voluntarily reports they are pesticide free". I am working with a local non-profit (the Pink and Green Ribbon campaign) to "collect" these committments/pledges. Wondering if anyone else has done similar work, has examples of favourable language or general suggestions? My thanks!

Hi Lori
I would suggest contacting the Saskatchewan Environmental Society. I used to work as their Water Issues Coordinator up until two years ago, at which time they were still running a successful pesticide-free campaign working with a couple of neighbourhoods each summer and working on getting commitments from residents. The programme used several CBSM tools, and several of our staff including the current Director attended a two day CBSM workshop in Calgary.
The website indicates that the programme is still running:

Hi Ken. To answer your questions, the program is voluntary, i.e. we do not have a bylaw or ban, and the reporting is also voluntary, i.e. we'll be asking people to simply let us know if they are pesticide free. We would like to use a pledge/committment tool as a method of record keeping. Thanks for the tools of change link. And thanks Alina too for your thoughts!

Hi Lori:
The Region of Waterloo used the attached sticker in a campaign that they ran (it was placed on curbside recycling containers). They also had a similar sticker for homes that had reduced, but not eliminated, their pesticide use.

Hi Lori,
Just to understand, does the quote mean that they are voluntarily reporting, or that is a voluntary program (i.e. no pesticide ban in place)? Also, is the reporting the same as the commitment/pledge you mention in the next sentence.
There is a best practices study on the Tools of Change website: http://www.toolsofchange.com/en/case-studies/detail/117.
Cheers,
Ken
