I want to help my colleagues better understand community-based social marketing. Has anyone done any exercises or activities with their staff, teams, coworkers, etc., that helps teach them more about barriers, strategizing, etc.? I know we won't be able to do a webinar, and I really want it to be hands-on. We work in sustainable transportation, and there seems to be little on this topic. Thanks!

I do a simple training for local energy campaign volunteers, 1 or 2 slides for each basic principle (commitment, convenience, etc.) and then group exploration of the way these factors play out in the actual community. Nothing magical. For example, with home energy assessments and upgrades, we can discuss the convenience factors which are not only about the logistics of having the assessment, but the more subtle issues around making householder decisions and making the upgrades a priority. We discuss what kinds of modeling work best - posters and yard signs with neighbor testimonials, or face to face through events, etc. Hope this helps.
