Good Morning,
Can anyone share their experiences with rolling out a smartphone application for waste and recycling or the environment-sustainability.
I am about to launch and roll out a waste and recycling smartphone app here in Sydney, Australia.
Looking to hear what others have found when launching the application, increasing its usage and the public's feedback, what to watch out for, etc,
Many Thanks

Hi Justin,
We've done a soft launch of our smartphone app for Waste & Recycling here in Calgary.
Residents can access the app through our municipal website when they search for their garbage & recycling collection schedule:
http://www.calgary.ca/UEP/WRS/Pages/Garbage-collection-information/Residential-services/Garbage-Day-Schedule.aspx
Calgarians currently have automated cart collection for garbage and recycling, and will be receiving an additional cart for food and yard waste in 2017.
We have run a pilot for food and yard waste collection and within the pilot have tested different collection schedules for garbage, recycling, and food and yard waste.
The intent behind the smartphone app is to assist with the addition of new cart, new materials, and a new day for collection. We are also hoping to reduce the amount of print calendars sent out to residents.
We are working through some of the data issues during this soft launch period as well as trialing bi-weekly education campaigns. We will be promoting the app in our Green Cart (food & yard waste) pilot communities in June and will be launching a larger promotional campaign for the rest of the city in 2016.
Click-thru traffic from the app reminders to our website has increased and we've been meeting once every four months to plan our app-based campaigns for the following business quarter.
Please feel free to contact me via email if you have any questions.
