Bestselling author Dan Heath has come out with another fantastic book this year, called Upstream: The quest to solve problems before they happen. Behavioural Scientist published an excerpt from his book that outlines how various stakeholders in Iceland came together to tackle a pervasive national problem of alcohol and drug abuse among teens. It is amazing to see how over a 20-year period, teen culture shifted from regular late-night partying on the streets to healthier behaviours such as participating in sports and spending more time with family. Heath recognizes that tackling a problem upstream isn't easy. He talks about how "surrounding the problem" by getting the right people together is key, since each of them have different influences on the teens.
