Beyond Brochures

Most programs to protect the environment or promote public health and safety rely upon disseminating information. Research demonstrates, however, that simply providing information has little or no effect on what individuals do. But if not ads, brochures or booklets, then what? Community-based social marketing (CBSM) has emerged as an effective alternative for promoting engagement in behaviors that protect the environment, promote public health, and prevent injuries.

Masters Coaching

Each year, the founder of community-based social marketing, Dr. Doug McKenzie-Mohr, coaches a limited number of agencies through using community-based social marketing to design and deliver behavioral change programs. This coaching provides participants with the opportunity to gain direct experience in community-based social marketing through a carefully guided process in which a project team is coached as they develop their own unique CBSM program. This service is offered on a quarterly basis, allowing participants to arrange the coaching to coincide with when they are developing a new program.

This comprehensive Masters Coaching consists of a series of one-on-one video Zoom calls with extensive email contact between each call. Each call is structured around the steps of community-based social marketing (selecting behaviors, identifying barriers, developing strategies, conducting pilots, and broad-scale implementation). The expectation is for the project team to complete the behavior selection, barrier and benefit research, and strategy development and to prepare for pilot testing within a three to four-month period.

About the Coach

For over three decades Dr. McKenzie-Mohr, a psychologist, has been incorporating scientific knowledge on behavior change into the design and delivery of community programs. His best-selling book has been recommended by Time magazine and his work featured in the New York Times. The approach that he pioneered, community-based social marketing, is now being utilized in thousands of programs worldwide.

Masters coaching is priced at $6950 USD per project, with this fee due at the time of booking. For agencies that wish to receive coaching for three or more programs, there is a 10% reduction (note that each project need not occur within the same quarter, but the registrations and payment need to be made at the same time to obtain the group rate).
