Hi,
I hope I'm not repeating a thread but does anyone know of any waste education projects that have targeted diverse cultural groups (including migrant and refugee)? Any links to websites or references to articles/case studies on this subject would be much appreciated.
thanks

There is a great programme running in London that works on council estates with a very diverse migrant population. Their scheme is one of the best small scale systems I have seen or heard about, can operate on a local basis, create local employment & doesn't require massive engineering solutions... www.elcrp-recycling.com They will be able to give you advice on engaging with people's concerns, etc where the environment & sustainability are pretty low down the list. Also have a look at their food waste programme, it integrates with Bokashi (see www.livingsoil.co.uk but originally from NZ so you probably know all about it) and small scale low-tech in-vessel composting systems built in the UK called ROCKET http://www.quickcompost.co.uk/ Such systems could be set up at every school / council car park to service the local community's food waste composting needs. It would cost a fraction of large scale systems & reduce the need for large collection rounds. Even better it produces top quality compost in very little time.
Cheers
Sarah,
Check out the Community POWER program, which reaches out to very diverse groups in Minnesota, including recent immigrants. You will find information at www.GreenGuardian.com
