Hello,
I'm seeking information about case studies or programs aimed at the residential sector that raise awareness of climate change issues and try to reduce carbon emissions from households by encouraging more energy efficient lighting, appliances, vehicles, or participation in carbon offset programs. What strategies/programs have been effective in changing residential energy consumption behavior? I'm particularly interested in programs that use the principles of CBSM. I'm aware of the 10% Challenge in Burlington, Vermont.
Thanks very much,
Denise Blaha

hello denise:
Here is another link to a campaign called 20% by 2010, a renewable energy campaign in Connecticut. SmartPower, an NPO that put his together, is launching a similiar campaign in Philly this http://www.smartpower.org/20renewable_energy.htm
Also worth looking at is the residential campaign by PECO in partnership with Community Energy. Together they have signed up over 30,000 households for clean energy, with each household buying about 30% of monthly use with wind. This has included bill inserts, PR, tabling outreach at music festivals, etc. A 3-year effort. http://www.exeloncorp.com/ourcompanies/peco/pecores/peco_wind/.
Finally, our company has offset the climate impact of Al Gore's film, An Inconvenient Truth, and combined with support of rock musicians and other "celebs" that has help us reach many consumers who have purchased clean energy or offset their car emissions. http://www.nativeenergy.com/WB_ClimateCrisis.html?ClimateCrisis. One thing is certain - none of these will work without the Internet for reach and the ability to take action quickly.

Wow.
That site I believe comes from 3 folks at University of Arizona (Prof Robert Balling being one of them) who have been doing research under the financial support of the Western United Fuels Group (coal) and Exxon. http://www.exxonsecrets.org/html/personfactsheet.php?id=5.
